What's going on in Karak Zorn?

Published Date | Written by Skavenblight | Print | Email

It's quite a long time since we have updated the Karak Zorn website, neglecting the tradition of publishing the weekly progress reports. The truth is that ... there is not much to inform about at the moment ;). Drafting the rules is nearly over - most of them are playtest-ready. We still have to write some new background stories for the supplement. Some new special rules are still needed to be written, while the others have to be reviewed and collected in a separate chapter. Hired Swords and Dramatis Personae also wait for the completion.

The workshop work has been resumed again. 3D table's still in progress - a new dwarven segment and a cavern will be finished soon. Regarding miniatures, we've been recently working on new Dramatis Personae, hired swords and some other underground critters. Furthermore, there'll be probably another warband soon. Not to mention the miniatures being assembled and painted by playtesters :).

And as for the tests? Well ... testing ... due to the upcoming holiday it probably won't be as intense in the coming week :). On the other hand most of the 8 band get playtested by us and fellow playtesters. The most popular at the moment are the orcs and dwarfs.

Thanks as always for your interest and for giving us motivation - may Karak Zorn have its release as soon as possible!

News from Karak Zorn

Published Date | Written by Skavenblight | Print | Email

I am pleased to announce that the work goes in equal pace, and again we have done a bit, despite the limited time. I still do not know the release date for the supplement, and we do not want to promise anything without coverage, but we have less and less to do ;)!

News from the forge:

  • rules for 6 new so-called "Emergency scenarios" were written - there are 30 scenarios in Karak Zorn in total at the moment!
  • two new Dramatis Personae have arrived.
  • ...yet another hired sword has been finished, thanks for Kadzik who put the effort in writing comprehensive rules, because the hired sword is written in two "versions" - good and bad...

News from the workshop:

  • a half of 3D Karak Zorn wargaming table has been build - three new segments are in progress:  two dwarven chambers and a cavern.
  • slowly but steadily new miniatures for warbands, hired swords and Dramatis Personae are assembled and painted by Karak Zorn contributors and playtesters!

News from the battlefield:

  • a group of youngsters led by Kadzik has already started testing warbands in the campaign! Let's keep our fingers crossed for them!
  • in the coming days we also have the intention to return to the testing and start with Kapitan Hak a new campaign. A clash between dwarfs and their wretched kinsmen is very likely!

We hope that we continue to encourage and motivate you to work - a lot of things have been done so far and we are constantly getting closer to having the supplement completed :)!

Week after week...

Published Date | Written by Skavenblight | Print | Email

...we keep on working on our Karak Zorn supplement. Last week we've focused on the painting and modelling aspect of the project – we've just finished two new scenery pieces and we've started working on new ones. Both Hakostwo (Skavenblight & Kapitan Hak) and Kadzik work by heart to create new pieces of terrain. The first part of the team has just finished a dwarven tavern (a new segment for the dwarf hold table), whereas the second part has created several lizardmen buildings - though they're not specifically designed for dungeons they'll be useful for arranging a Southlands' themed wargaming table. Have a glance at the gallery in the following days - you won't be disappointed!

Regarding warbands there's a constant progress either. The Fallen Dwarfs warband, depicting the remains of former inhabitants of Karak Zorn, devoid of all pride and honour, has just been finished up. Playtesters, that have recently joined the project, don't idle too - there're rumors that a brave dwarf expedition and a vile bunch of greenskins are on their ways to the Lost Hold. Furthermore, a brand new hired sword is just being sculpted by Kadzik... stay tuned for more news ;).

Rules are being developed either. In the recent week hired swords have been thoroughly discussed on and a bunch of new scenarios as well. The majority of the supplement's rules has been already written. We only need to summarise some special rules and write down a few Dramatis Personae ideas.

Keep your fingers crossed - the more work has been done, the more effort - paradoxically - is needed to be put into polishing the details. We hope that the whole process will go smoothly and successfully!

Last week progress

Published Date | Written by Skavenblight | Print | Email

During the last week we have focused on preparing miniatures and scenery pieces for Karak Zorn. No wonder - we have almost done major part of the rules. Only few details need to be added and it seems that the rules are to be considered playtest ready very soon.

We have finished:

  • Rules on several Hired Swords;
  • A Dramatis Personae;
  • Modified rules on hiring Dramatis Personae.

Regarding the visual aspect of Karak Zorn, a next warband, the Fallen Dwarfs, is about to be completed. New cavern segments have been done too, along with some obstacles designed for our two dimensional dungeon tiles. Their photos can be found in the Gallery section of our Karak Zorn Portal.

Speaking of our website, the number of unique visitors rises constantly and we have already received some positive feedback from players interested in our project. By the way, the Polish language version has just been introduced.

The last news for today, especially for those concerned about the game balance of the supplement - a group of playtesters has just joined our team!

Another week of work...

Published Date | Written by Skavenblight | Print | Email

... and still visible progress!

A bunch of playtesters've already officially joined the project, and from what we know, they've started to work on miniatures for their own warbands.

Thanks to their suggestions, we've revised Savage Orcs warband and made several significant changes to the rules: a new hero's been added, the limit of warriors in the warband has been changed and new rules has been applied to some of the henchmen, eg. spiders. So expect something new, something amusing to play and different from what you know from vanilla Mordheim Orcs & Goblins warband.

Also in the campaign system, some minor changes have been made. Several new scenarios are about to be added - though they won't be part of main plot they'll be needed to peform some subsidiary actions.

Moreover, rules for a new hired sword have been written. It is a creature that is rather unusual for the Warhammer World, but it'll be familiar for those who had an opportunity to play the first edition of the Warhammef Fantasy Role Play. Calm down, it won't be neither a fimir, nor a zoat ;).

Wargaming tables of Karak Zorn - both two- and three dimensional - are being created in full steam. In the gallery you can see most of the recent works and we'll soon add new ones just do it. The painting of Fallen Dwarfs warband is slowly coming to an end, which means that miniatures for three warbands will be ready soon.

Thank you all for your interest and support - as you can see, we try not to disappoint you!
